The Teishin Shudan were first deployed in battle during the Battle of Palembang in February 1942, where they made a significant contribution. One regiment of paratroopers landed at Palembang airfield while another unit took the city and its oil refinery. Despite their initial successes, they suffered heavy losses, leading them to later fight as elite infantry. They shared the same fanatic will as other Japanese forces and had endured tough battles behind enemy lines.

The final air drop was carried out during an attack on American airbases on Leyte, where most of the force was shot down before reaching their targets. Although 300 men who landed on Leyte caused significant damage, the small force was soon surrounded and annihilated.
