In the early days of the Old Dominion, the Kataphractoi were Caelesor's chosen companions, or Hetairoi, armed with the finest armor and weapons he could provide and riding the largest horses he could find. As the Old Dominion evolved, these ancient formations were abandoned, but the title of Hetairos remained. This title was bestowed upon the greatest heroes of the Old Dominion and given only by Caelesor himself for heroic deeds on the battlefield. Some of the skill and honor these warriors once possessed still remains in their withered remnants, and the Hetairoi are first among equals in a Kataphractoi war chariot, whose mere presence reminds their comrades of the glorious charges of bygone times.
