The game is played over seven rounds. At the beginning of each round, the dealer draws a special card, reads it aloud to all players, shuffles it into the deck, and deals the cards evenly to all players. In the first round, the dealer is always the owner of the game, and for the following rounds, it is the person who took 5 of the Dwarves in the previous round who is the dealer.

The player who gets 5 of the Knights draws a contract tile, reads it, and chooses one of the two scoring rules on it to apply during that round. The player who has 5 of the Goblins leads the first trick. Players must follow suit if possible, and there are no trumps in the game. The highest card played of the leading suit wins the trick and leads to the next trick.

Once all cards have been played, players count their scores (which can be negative), remove the special card and contract tile from the game, and shuffle the cards for the next round. The player with the most points after seven rounds wins the game.
