Pagan: Beyond the Palisades is an exciting and asymmetrical card game that engages two players in an intense rivalry between a Witch and a Witch Hunter. In this expansion, players are challenged to use their strategic skills to navigate through a mysterious world of intrigue and magic. The Witch strives to complete a ritual of renaturation before she is discovered and eliminated by the Witch Hunter. With nine suspicious villagers in the game, it's up to the Witch to figure out who the real Witch is.

Each turn, players can use their action tokens on active villagers to draw cards, play cards, gain influence, and manage Gloom. Gloom is a central resource in the game that benefits the Witch as long as it is in play, symbolizing her symbiotic relationship with the land.

To provide a deeper experience, two new mechanics are introduced in this expansion: Gloom and Cleanse.

• Gloom: Gloom cards enter the game and can be increased or decreased throughout the game. Some cards can even break the natural limits of Gloom.
• Cleanse: With enough effort, it is possible to cleanse the Gloom that threatens the village. Cleansing a card means removing every last bit of Gloom, after which the card is discarded.

The Witch can also brew powerful potions, enhance her familiar, and cast enchantments and charms, while the Witch Hunter recruits allies, claims strategic locations, and relentlessly investigates the villagers. With the new mechanics in Pagan: Beyond the Palisades, the game becomes even more challenging and strategic.
